“The only constant thing in this world is Change” – India Arie

Yet one of the most feared things in our life is change. But change happens anyways, whether it’s a move into a new home, change in jobs, breakups, new relationships, etc. During times of great change, if we are unaware, our bodies can take a hit because we physically resist with our own anxieties and fears. Back pain, neck and shoulder tension, insomnia heighten during these transitions.

This is where bodywork comes in. I treat many of my long-time clients during times of great change or transitions in their lives. They usually come in because of body pain that needs work. Ultimately, bodywork helps one let go to the unknown that change brings in because the body is flowing and less resistant.

Here’s an idea: get a tune-up being conscious of the fact that you are in an accelerated space of change in your life. It will make the transition much smoother as you let go of holding, tightness and control in your body. Letting go to these changes is what evolution is about. It's where you're intended to go. Learning from the transition brings on the wisdom. - Christie Jordan

Breech Turns and Acupuncture

By: Anah McMahon, Licensed Acupuncturist

Did you know that acupuncture and moxibustion can help correct a breech presentation in a pregnant woman? This safe and simple method is helping women avoid birth complications and cesareans.* There are many explanations as to how it works, but I encourage my patients to begin the treatment with an open mind and heart, and the understanding that if their baby wants to turn, it will! The women I’ve treated say that it’s a very calming and relaxing experience, which is an added benefit. I use visualization during treatments, and encourage moms to connect with their baby. The treatment involves very few needles, and focuses on the use of moxa (Chinese herb) that warms a point on the little toe, stimulating fetal hormones and helping to relax the uterus. It’s typically a five day protocol, but in my experience I have had a baby turn after three treatments. Moms are so excited when their ultrasounds show that their little one has turned! Although it really depends on each individual, this treatment typically works best in the 34th week of pregnancy. What a wonderful way to finish out the end of your pregnancy, with no complications and the reassurance that you can avoid surgery. It would be great if more women knew they have this option, so please spread the word to family and friends!

*For more info: Refer to the landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 which found that up to 75% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion. There is also a Japanese study with a 92.48 percent success rate out of 357 women. There are articles at acupuncturetoday.com and acufinder.com
